Haneda’s North Satellite: a longer walk and a firm baggage deadline

Haneda Terminal 1 gates 24–29: JAL and Skymark baggage deadlines, security routes, walking times and a practical airport arrival buffer.
Rules checked for October 19, 2026.
For JAL or Skymark domestic departures from Haneda, finish baggage drop at least 30 minutes before departure—not merely join the queue then. The deadline applies to their Haneda domestic departures, not just flights using the new North Satellite. JAL now strictly enforces its baggage cutoff; Skymark requires both check-in and baggage drop to be completed by that time. (JAL notice, Skymark notice)
For a straightforward trip with checked luggage, aim to reach Terminal 1’s departure lobby 90 minutes before your flight. That is a planning recommendation, not an airline minimum. Allow two hours during busy holidays, with children or if you expect slower walking or counter assistance.
What changed on September 1, 2026?
Haneda’s Terminal 1 North Satellite opened on September 1, adding six gates, 24–29, on the terminal’s north side. It reduces the need for bus transfers between the terminal and aircraft; it does not mean every Terminal 1 flight now boards without a bus. (Airport operator’s announcement, opening report)
The airlines’ deadline changes need one distinction:
- JAL: baggage drop changed from a recommended 30 minutes before departure to a strict 30-minute cutoff. It was not a change from 20 to 30 minutes.
- Skymark: both check-in and baggage drop changed from 20 to 30 minutes before departure.
JAL’s previous and new rules appear in the joint airline announcement; Skymark’s specific Haneda notice confirms its change.
If you have only cabin baggage, Skymark’s check-in deadline still matters. JAL’s September change concerns checked baggage; its security and gate deadlines remain separate.
Which checkpoint—and how long is the walk?
JAL: its satellite guidance covers gates 26–29, with E and F the nearest security checkpoints. JAL estimates roughly 16 minutes and 1,070 metres from E, or 15 minutes and 860 metres from F, to reach the satellite. Those figures do not include your security queue. JAL requires security clearance at least 20 minutes before departure and gate arrival at least 10 minutes before departure. Clearing security at the last permitted moment therefore leaves too little time for the published satellite walk. (JAL satellite guidance, boarding deadlines)
Skymark: its satellite guidance covers gates 25–29, but its dedicated security checkpoint remains G. It warns of a longer walk and asks passengers to reach the gate at least 15 minutes before departure. From October 25, 2026, it will also strictly enforce a boarding cutoff 10 minutes before departure; keep the earlier 15-minute arrival target. (Satellite notice, October boarding change)
For JAL baggage drop, follow your destination’s assigned wing—not simply the satellite’s location: South Wing for Chugoku, Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa; North Wing for Hokkaido, Tohoku, Hokuriku, Tokai and Kinki. (JAL wing guidance)
Build your Tokyo-to-airport route backwards
For a 14:00 departure, use these planning targets:
| Step | Target time |
|---|---|
| Reach Terminal 1 departure lobby | By 12:30 |
| Finish check-in and baggage drop | By 13:00 |
| Clear security | By 13:10 |
| Reach your assigned gate | By 13:30 |
These are buffer targets, not additional official deadlines. They leave 20 minutes between security clearance and gate arrival—more than JAL’s published 15–16-minute walk. Move them earlier if you walk slowly, need assistance or encounter queues; Skymark’s notice does not give a walking-time estimate from G.
A route planner’s airport-station arrival is not your departure-lobby arrival. Rail access is below ground, while Terminal 1 domestic departures are on 2F: leave time to exit the station, change floors and find the correct counter. (Airport rail-access guide, GO TOKYO terminal guide)
Finally, JAL currently warns of unstable mobile reception near gates 26–29. Save a screenshot of your boarding barcode before heading to the satellite, then check the departure display and walk to your assigned gate before stopping for food. (JAL passenger notice)
