Seibu Shibuya Has Closed—But Loft and Muji Are Still Open

Mina Kuroda · 2 min read

Seibu Shibuya closed September 30, 2026. See which buildings shut, where Loft and Muji remain open, and how to replace the food-hall stop.

Yes. Seibu Shibuya department store closed on September 30, 2026, ending 58 years of operation. But the separate Loft and Movida buildings remain open—so a planned Loft or Muji visit does not need to be cancelled. The operator’s closure notice confirms both the closing date and the two buildings’ continued operation from October 1; local reporting records the store’s final day.

Status and opening hours checked October 31, 2026.

Which Seibu Shibuya buildings closed?

The closure covers A, B and the parking building, not the entire complex. Jiji’s report in The Japan Times distinguishes the buildings as follows:

Building Status What this means for your visit
A building Closed Remove the Seibu food-floor and department-store stop from your itinerary.
B building Closed The former clothing and goods floors are no longer a shopping destination.
Parking building Closed Do not plan to use the old Seibu parking building.
Loft building Open Go directly to Shibuya Loft.
Movida building Open Muji continues here, now under a different store name.

Set your map destination to the shop you actually want, rather than “Seibu Shibuya.” For Loft or Muji, use their own entrances instead of trying to reach them through the closed department store.

Keep the Loft or Muji stop

Shibuya Loft: The current address is 18-2 Udagawacho. Normal hours are 11am–9pm. Loft’s official access guidance allows five minutes from Shibuya Station exit A3, or ten minutes from JR’s Hachiko Exit. These are the store’s walking estimates, not time from your train platform. See the official Shibuya Loft page.

Muji: Search for MUJI Shibuya Koen-dori (無印良品 渋谷公園通り). The former “Muji Shibuya Seibu” changed its name on October 1, 2026, while continuing to operate in Movida. Its parking-building basement section had already closed on September 6. Muji’s renaming notice and section-closure notice explain the distinction.

The current address is 19-7 Udagawacho, with normal hours of 11am–9pm and a listed six-minute walk from Hachiko Exit. Muji announced that household goods, kitchenware, stationery and textiles would return on Movida’s sixth floor from October 23, 2026. Use the current store listing and sixth-floor notice, rather than an old floor guide.

October 31, 2026 exception: Both Loft and Muji list an early 7pm closing that day.

Replace the Seibu food-hall stop

For prepared food or sweets, substitute Shibuya Tokyu Food Show, rather than walking to Seibu’s closed A-building entrance. It occupies Shibuya Mark City’s first floor and basement, plus Shibuchika, and lists hours of 10am–9pm. From the Inokashira Line’s Mark City second-floor gates, the operator recommends descending by elevator or escalator. See the official Food Show guide.

For a longer shopping day, fit the surviving shops into the compact Shibuya route. You can replace the Seibu stop without changing neighborhoods.

Desk scores rate worth-the-trip-time and are set by the desk; they are never supplied by an operator, and reader review counts never feed them.
Per-entry fields are admission, hours, weekly closure, access and time budget. A field is omitted when it has not been verified — it is never estimated. Found an error? Submit a correction.
