Choose the Right Toei Pass After Magnetic Sales End

Advance magnetic Toei pass sales end in 2026, then onboard bus sales in 2027. See what remains and match the surviving format to your route.
Advance magnetic sales of the Toei One-Day Pass and Toei Bus One-Day Pass end September 30, 2026, and sales of specified magnetic tickets aboard Toei buses end March 31, 2027. For a bus-only day, choose the digital or IC bus pass; for a day combining Toei Subway and buses, choose the IC Toei One-Day Pass when its covered fares exceed ¥700 for an adult; for both Toei Subway and Tokyo Metro, compare the ¥1,100 Common One-day Ticket. JR is not covered by any of these passes.
Enter each ride and its expected fare; the calculator compares the surviving passes and shows where to buy the best match.
Adult and child pass prices are fixed below. Enter your ride counts and expected one-way fares; leave a category at zero when you will not use it.
The source material does not provide this price. Enter the current adult or child price to include the bus pass in the comparison.
The calculator will compare pay-as-you-go, the Toei One-Day Pass, the Common One-day Ticket, and the bus pass when its current price is supplied.
Known pass prices: Toei ¥700 adult / ¥350 child; Common ¥1,100 adult / ¥550 child.

Sources: Tokyo Metropolitan Government announcement dated August 26, 2026; official Toei and Tokyo Metro ticket information. Individual fares and the bus-pass price were not supplied and must be entered by the user.
Ride count alone cannot establish the cheapest pass because individual fares vary, and the supplied official material does not state the Toei Bus One-Day Pass price. The useful thresholds are therefore your total covered fares: ¥700 for the adult Toei One-Day Pass and ¥1,100 for the adult Common One-day Ticket. Use the current bus-pass price when comparing a bus-only itinerary.
The deadlines concern particular sales channels, not the validity of every magnetic ticket. According to the August 26, 2026 Tokyo Metropolitan Government announcement, designated same-day magnetic sales will continue “for the time being.” No final date has been announced for those sales or for acceptance of magnetic tickets already issued.
Two Magnetic-Ticket Deadlines Apply
| Date | What changes | What remains |
|---|---|---|
| September 30, 2026 | Final day of advance magnetic sales for the Toei Marugoto Kippu and Toei Bus One-Day Pass | Designated same-day magnetic sales and specified onboard sales |
| March 31, 2027 | Final day of magnetic sales aboard Toei buses for three named products | Designated same-day magnetic sales away from the bus |
| No date announced | Remaining same-day magnetic sales continue “for the time being” | No permanent guarantee or final cutoff has been published |
The September deadline applies to advance magnetic sales of two one-day passes. It does not end all magnetic sales on that date.
The March deadline applies to magnetic onboard sales of the Toei Marugoto Kippu, Toei Bus One-Day Pass, and Toei Bus flat-rate commuter pass. The commuter pass is not a one-day ticket, and its inclusion under the later deadline does not expand the September deadline.
Sales and acceptance are separate. The announcement does not say that magnetic passes become invalid on September 30, 2026 or stop working on March 31, 2027.
Choose the Replacement by the Network You Use
Use the Bus Pass for a Bus-Only Day
The Toei Bus Digital One-Day Pass is the clearest advance-purchase replacement for the magnetic bus pass. It can be purchased beginning 28 days before its travel date.
The Toei Bus IC One-Day Pass remains available aboard Toei buses. From April 1, 2027, it is the confirmed continuing option for someone who wants to board a bus and obtain a one-day bus pass there.
The official announcement supplied for this guide does not state the bus pass price, smartphone requirements, accepted payments, child-ticket arrangements, refund rules, or IC-card eligibility. Compare the current price with the sum of your expected bus fares before buying.
Use the Toei One-Day Pass for Toei Subway and Bus Rides
The Toei Marugoto Kippu, presented in English as the Toei 1Day Pass or Toei One-Day Pass, covers Toei Subway, Toei Bus, Tokyo Sakura Tram, and the Nippori-Toneri Liner.
The official Toei ticket page lists it at ¥700 for adults and ¥350 for children. If the fares you would otherwise pay on those covered services exceed the pass price, the pass is the lower-cost choice before considering convenience.
The IC version remains available from supported ticket machines at some Toei Subway and Nippori-Toneri Liner stations. Do not assume every machine at every station issues it.
Designated same-day magnetic sales also continue for the time being at Toei bus sales-office counters, Toei Subway stations, Nippori-Toneri Liner stations, commuter-pass sales offices, and other designated locations. The announcement does not provide a complete matrix showing which location sells each pass.
Use the Common Ticket for Both Subway Operators
The Common One-day Ticket for Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway is a separate product. It covers the two subway systems but not Toei buses, Tokyo Sakura Tram, the Nippori-Toneri Liner, or JR.
Tokyo Metro lists it at ¥1,100 for adults and ¥550 for children and describes standard, PASMO IC, and QR versions on its official one-day ticket page.
| Pass | Covered network | Adult price | Named in the magnetic-sales announcement? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toei Marugoto Kippu / Toei 1Day Pass | Toei Subway, Toei Bus, Tokyo Sakura Tram, Nippori-Toneri Liner | ¥700 | Yes |
| Common One-day Ticket | Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway | ¥1,100 | No |
The Common One-day Ticket is not among the products named in the August 26 announcement. Its inclusion of Toei Subway does not bring it under the deadlines for the Toei Marugoto Kippu and bus pass.
If your day uses both subway operators, compare ¥1,100 with the combined fares for only those subway rides. If most of your travel is on Toei and includes buses, the ¥700 Toei pass may still cost less even when one Tokyo Metro fare must be paid separately.
Pay Separately for JR
None of these passes covers JR. A route involving JR therefore has two components: the cost of the relevant pass and the JR fares paid separately.
This can change the result when two routes reach the same neighborhood. A subway-only route may fit a pass, while a faster JR segment may make pay-as-you-go travel preferable. The calculator keeps JR outside every pass total rather than treating it as covered.
What You Can Buy After Each Deadline
| Product | Ending sales method | Deadline | Confirmed continuing option |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toei Marugoto Kippu | Advance magnetic sales | September 30, 2026 | Same-day magnetic sales at designated locations; IC version at supported station machines |
| Toei Marugoto Kippu | Magnetic sales aboard buses | March 31, 2027 | Same-day magnetic sales at designated locations; IC version at supported machines |
| Toei Bus One-Day Pass | Advance magnetic sales | September 30, 2026 | Digital pass from 28 days before travel; designated same-day magnetic sales |
| Toei Bus One-Day Pass | Magnetic sales aboard buses | March 31, 2027 | IC bus pass remains available aboard buses |
| Toei Bus flat-rate commuter pass | Magnetic sales aboard buses | March 31, 2027 | No complete replacement matrix was provided |
From October 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027, advance magnetic sales of the two one-day passes have ended, but magnetic tickets have not disappeared from every channel. Specified magnetic products may still be sold aboard buses through March 31, while designated same-day sales continue elsewhere.
From April 1, 2027, do not plan to buy the magnetic Toei One-Day Pass or magnetic bus pass from a driver. Use the onboard IC bus pass for a bus-only day, the digital bus pass for advance purchase, or a supported station machine for the IC Toei One-Day Pass.
If a physical magnetic ticket is essential, check the intended same-day sales point shortly before travel. Obtaining one at an unfamiliar interchange may add an unnecessary transfer or counter search; Navigating Large Tokyo Train Stations by Trip Goal explains how to plan around the correct exit and facility.
Tickets Already Sold Do Not Have a Confirmed Cutoff
The deadlines end methods of sale. They are not stated final dates for using tickets bought earlier, passing through gates, boarding vehicles, or requesting refunds or exchanges.
The general Toei ticket information says an advance Toei 1Day Pass is valid for one day of use within six months of sale. That general condition should not be treated as a guarantee about every magnetic ticket spanning the transition. The sales announcement does not explain whether special handling will apply to tickets bought close to September 30.
No date has been announced for:
- Ending all remaining magnetic-ticket sales
- Ending designated same-day magnetic sales
- Completing the move to digital tickets and IC cards
- Stopping acceptance of magnetic tickets already issued
- Changing refund or exchange procedures
If you already hold a magnetic ticket for travel after a deadline, use its printed conditions and current Toei guidance. The announcement supports neither an assumption of immediate invalidity nor a guarantee beyond those conditions.
Magnetic Sales Are Shrinking Because Stock Is Hard to Secure
Toei gives three reasons for reducing magnetic-ticket sales: difficulty securing a stable supply of magnetic-ticket stock, improving customer convenience, and reducing environmental impact.
It also says the Toei Marugoto Kippu and other magnetic tickets will continue moving toward digital tickets and IC cards. That describes the direction of the change, not a complete phaseout timetable.
“For the time being” leaves designated same-day magnetic sales open-ended. It should not be read as either permanent availability or an indication that another cutoff is imminent.
Common Questions About the Change
Are All Toei Magnetic Passes Ending in September 2026?
No. September 30, 2026 is the final day for advance magnetic sales of the Toei Marugoto Kippu and Toei Bus One-Day Pass. Designated same-day magnetic sales continue for the time being, and specified onboard magnetic sales continue through March 31, 2027.
Can I Still Buy a Magnetic Pass on the Travel Day?
Yes, under the announced policy, at designated stations, offices, counters, and other locations. The announcement does not guarantee that every location sells every affected product or provide a final date for this channel.
What Can I Buy Aboard a Bus After March 31, 2027?
The confirmed continuing one-day option is the Toei Bus IC One-Day Pass. The magnetic Toei Marugoto Kippu, magnetic Toei Bus One-Day Pass, and magnetic flat-rate bus commuter pass will no longer be sold aboard Toei buses.
How Early Is the Digital Bus Pass Available?
The Toei Bus Digital One-Day Pass can be purchased beginning 28 days before its travel date. Current device, payment, passenger-eligibility, and refund conditions should be checked before purchase.
Is the Metro–Toei Common Ticket Affected?
No. The Common One-day Ticket for Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway is not named in the announcement. It remains a separate ¥1,100 adult or ¥550 child product covering the two subway operators.
